Abstract:The core question in the book On the Origin of Poetry of Ye Xie, is the theory about “orthodoxy and heterodoxy in the poetic style”, which is against in times (just in The Book of Songs) , and in the poetry genres (just in the theory of classical poetic formal distinctions). Pursuing continuity and prosperity in the poetics are the key factors from Han to Song Dynasty. Ye Xie considers that heterodoxy can bring prosperity for the poetics, and conventionality can bring only recessionary to poetry, which hit the key of the neoclassical theories in Ming Dynasty. It is a dynamic process called “ prosperous or recessionary for carrying on or creating ”. Ye Xie emphasizes there is a mind to be skillful or clumsy in the Song poetry.
