Photo-interview is an art-based research method. When used in children’s research, it can empower children, support children to express their real life patterns through visuals, construct their own knowledge, and obtain more research data with better reliability and validity. The procedure of photo-interview in children’s research includes seven steps: determining the research topic and objectives, inviting children to participate, selecting photographic tools, clarifying the requirements for shooting, organizing photos, formal interview, and analyzing data to form a conclusion. The reflection on the power of children and adults runs through the whole process. To make children active participants in future research, we need to pay attention to the thinking of methodology, enhance the care for research ethics, integrate the ideas and methods of multidisciplinary fields, and enhance inclusiveness.
