Abstract:The adept use of classical allusions and the drawing of wisdom from Chinese cultural texts constitute a distinctive mode of discourse and narrative orientation in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on education. The use of classical allusions in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourse on education embodies a triple logic of historical, practical and contemporary reasoning. It represents both a continuation of the rhetorical conventions of traditional Chinese educational thought and a renewal of the Communist Party of China’s practice of using classical analogies to elucidate principles. Moreover, it constitutes a creative response to the core propositions of educational development in the new era and the urgent need for stylistic transformation. Grounded in the “second integration”, the use of classical references in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourse on education manifests a narrative orientation characterised by “drawing on the past to illuminate the present”, “establishing order and consolidating foundations”, “uniting hearts and minds” and “paving the way for new chapters”. This approach highlights the historical perspective, strategic foresight, shared understanding, and international influence inherent in his discourse. Looking ahead, we should activate the contemporary value of traditional Chinese educational thought, harness strategic thinking to meet people’s educational needs and support national talent development, and enhance the narrative efficacy of China’s educational discourse in global education governance. This should be guided by the values of “drawing on the past to invigorate the present”, “strengthening foundations and deepening roots”,and “harmonious coexistence”. Such efforts will advance the practical implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourse on education, contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to global education governance.
