Abstract:The lofty ideals and noble characters pursued by the Communist Party of China in terms of Party spirit represent a grand vision, a high realm, and profound wisdom. The cultivation methods for Party members and cadres that it promotes are a gradual and persistent practical process. This process is not only inherent in the systematic advancement model of the dialectical unity of public and private virtues, namely “cultivating great virtue-observing public virtue-being strict with private virtue”, but also closely related to the traditional Chinese cultural practice of “cultivating oneself-regulating the family-governing the state-pacifying the world”. The cultivation of political morality for Party members and cadres in the new era must draw on the excellent traditional Chinese political morality culture in a manner that is compatible and coordinated with the practical paradigm of political moral cultivation in the new era. Through creative transformation and innovative development, it should achieve a ‘sublation’ of traditional ways of moral cultivation. At the level of cultivating great virtues in Party character, drawing on the historical wisdom of “not being meticulous in small deeds, ultimately harming great virtue” becomes an important path for promoting the cultivation of great Party virtues among members and cadres in the new era. At the level of fostering public morality awareness, Party members and cadres in the new era must actively draw on the cultural wisdom of Confucianism’s “governing the world and bringing peace to all under heaven”, from which they can obtain rich ethical nourishment. At the level of improving personal private morality, it is necessary to absorb the essence of the excellent traditional Chinese culture of “prudent solitude” and on this basis, inject new vitality into it, promoting a shift in mindset for Party members and cadres in the new era from “I must be prudent in private” to “I want to be prudent in private”. From the perspective of the “second integration”, a practical approach of “great virtue-public virtue-private virtue” which is deeply rooted in the thought factors of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, is proposed. This not only clarifies the main content for Party members and cadres in the new era to cultivate their political morality by drawing on the traditional Chinese culture of political ethics, which helps enhance the pertinence and effectiveness of political moral construction, but also contributes wisdom to advancing the Party’s self-reform and the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party.
